There have been so many times I have gone somewhere new and I observed what everyone was like, and I tried to become what was “in” or accepted.

I don’t think I am alone in this. For some reason we think that if we just become like everyone else we will finally feel a sense of belonging. Often times we desire so badly to fit in and belong, that we sacrifice the very thing that makes us an asset to the space we are in.

We were all made with unique skill sets, features, and qualities that set us apart. To say something is set apart seems like an oxymoron though in the case of belonging. How could being different make me belong to something I want to be like?

If we’re never meant to be like everyone else. The most beautiful thing about a puzzle is that every piece is different, yet it fits together.

The room needs you.

It does not need the fake version or the one that is trying desperately to fit in.

It needs the you that you often hide.

The you that is not always put together.

The you that has flaws and weaknesses.

This you is the one that changes the room.

Do not do others a disservice by hiding the pieces of you that might bring healing to them. Your redemption might just bring wholeness to someone else who is currently fractured. You belong in the room— just as you are. Your piece fits in the puzzle.
